Tina & Christian

In a Nutshell

Where and when:

Franschhoek Winelands, March 2009

The Look:

To highlight the authenticity of the objects used, colours were kept to a combination of white with hints of ivory, soft green, pale yellow and accents of chocolate brown.  A variety of chandeliers and suspended lamps, fringed draping, and vanilla scented pillar candles lent a chic feel to the overall picture.

Take Our Word:

Use antique shapes in a modern context and classical, soft blooms to create a light mood within an inviting atmosphere where the visual appeal stretch across different style genres and eras. Here, a play on the Victorian couture era came through strongly in carefully themed stationery.

The Story:

Tina and Christian expressed their desire to have a colour scheme of chocolate brown and cream and we were able to translate this into a beautiful contemporary look. At this showstopper wedding, bold mahogany tables were left unclothed to create contrast and structure in the room whilst accentuating the striking combination of stationery, crystal glassware, silver cutlery and an array of handpicked floral containers.  The interplay between white and brown also symbolised the special fusion of the couple’s African and European cultures.

Guests gathered to watch the couple say their vows under a white gazebo laden with flowers. Tina wanted the flowers to be pointing forward to symbolise the couple looking ahead to their future life together. After the ceremony, guests moved into a white marquee and tucked into baked prawn soufflé, tuna tartare, Scottish Salmon and stuffed lion of lamb created by Outcook Express. The venue was filled with beautiful flowers and a mix of modern and antique vases created a stunning contrast on the brown mahogany tables. This look was complimented with a variety of lighting fixtures – from dazzling crystal chandeliers to modern lamps and lanterns. The cake, made by Gina Buys, had layers of chocolate, orange, coffee and vanilla sponge, and was decorated with cream icing with piped polka dots and white ribbons to reinstate the classical elegant look.
